History

The Faculty of Physical Education for Men, University of Alexandria is one of the first academic institutions established in the Arab Republic of Egypt in the field of physical Education. For over half a century of continuous academic activity, the Faculty has released large numbers of distinguished qualified graduates who took up the leadership of sporting activity in Egypt and in Arab countries.

The Faculty dates back to 1955 when it was established as an institute of physical education with two divisions, a higher division and an intermediate one. In 1958 duration of study in the institute was prolonged from three to four years after which a graduate would be awarded the Bachelor Degree. In 1975 the institute was given the title of "Faculty " and it was officially annexed to the Helwan University. In 1989 the Faculty became affiliated to the University of Alexandria and became officially titled The Faculty of Physical Education for Men, University of Alexandria.

In 2002 the Ministerial Decree No 320 of 10/3/2002 was issued in  approval of the bylaws of the Faculty of Physical Education for Men, Alexandria University, which had aimed at:

• The development of specialists in the field of physical education to work in the different institutions of the society in the following fields:
  1. School sport .
     
  2. Sports training in the sport of specialization .
     
  3. Sport administration .
• Preparing researchers in the field of school sport, sports training in the sport of specialization and sport administration;

•  Conducting scientific research and studies in different sport fields that would help  community service and environmental development;

• Providing scientific consultation and expertise to sport organizations and institutions;

• Studying  issues of physical education in collaboration with Egyptian, Arab and international sport organizations and institutions.
