An outstanding landmark in the development of the Sports Research and Informatics Unit was the recognition by the UNESCO of the Unit as a major center for granting the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) accredited by EDCL in January 2006 and holding the exams leading to the granting of the international license. One of the unit’s halls was already provided for holding the tests. This simply means that the Unit is the first center for in Alexandria University granting the international license.
An agreement was signed with Cisco Academy to teach the IT Essentials.
An agreement was signed with Microsoftand the Ministry of communications to establish the Microsoft Academy which will be responsible for training Alexandria University staff and students through the Microsoft Courses.
The Ministry of Communications also recognized the unit as a training center within the framework of the ministry's program of skill development, part of the National Project for the Super user and Normal User of the Computer. 8 courses were held so far and 870 students have already completed training.
The unit is also recognized as a center of the Ministry of Higher Education for the development of the National Projects to train faculty staff members and researchers
The Higher Institute of Public Health and the Unit concluded an agreement to train the institute staff members on computer operating within the framework of the institute infra-structure project.
An arrangement was made with the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce to create 1500 training opportunities to grant trainees a Microsoft accredited certificates on how to use the internet and the windows programme.
In cooperation within the Faculty's Quality Assurance Unit, the Faculty administrative staff received training on the use of computers, as part of the faculty's plan to develop computer skills. 62 administrative staff members received the training.
In cooperation with the ICTP project the unit provides trainers for 11 faculties in Alexandria.

The unit is now a recognized centre in Alexandria University for teaching and holding examinations for the faculty staff members, students and employees to obtain the Microsoft Course Certificate. The Microsoft Academy provides programmes for educational institutions which enable them to plan, manage and implement effective training courses using the specialized educational Microsoft programmes, e-learning, digital simulation methods through the best certified Microsoft trainers.
